My last couple of pairs have been Doc Martens, but my latest have about had it. As an agricultural labor attorney, I spend a lot of time in fields, processing facilities, and various footwear unfriendly environments. I need something versatile, because sometimes I’m in 100 degree heat (sorry Europe), and sometimes I’m in near freezing when the sun comes up in Yuma in December. (Beautiful when the sun rises over ice on the lettuce). You don’t want to visit a dairy in dress shoes. I buy every associate a pair of boots when they start working for me. It’s not what law school told them to expect.

My practice is not exactly Brooks Brothers by nature. I wear jeans almost every day, and am only in a suit if I have to be in court. My clients don’t really want to talk to someone in a tie.

I had an associate get shit on by a cow while wearing a really expensive suit and it made me laugh my ass off. When a cow’s ass is pointing at you, you need to move out of the line of fire or face the consequences.

I really like these, but can’t seem to find them in my size in black. What do you think?

Not sure if you have them in the US or how expensive they are, but the only pair of boots I ever got were Hunter and they lasted me a long time.

EDIT: There seems to be a US version of the website.

I’ve always been a big fan of Red Wings. I’ve got two pair of them, one is probably ten years old, the other is six or so. Love those things.

I like the look. I wonder how comfortable they are though.

Have you tried/considered Red Wing or Merrill?

My trusty pair of Timberland Pros are still great after 7 years of school, winters and work sites. I dont have to wear them every day, but they are not an exhausting set of boots to wear.

My sister has a set of Doc Martens, but they just dont look like boots I would want to wear on a job site.

Also, not that Im 100% sold on them right now, but Beta also makes work boots and even sneakers with a composite toe I would consider if I end up going to more work sites (theyve got a high top sneaker with composite toe that Im keeping my eyes on).

Do you want more like cowboy-style boots, or just work boots? I’ve had a pair of Timberland work boots (non-steel toe) for a year now and I’m pretty happy with them. They weren’t too pricey and they’re comfortable. They are a bit worn now, as I’m bad about polishing boots, but I like them.

I always get black boots but there’s a couple other colors, and they are available with steel-toes if you need them. I think I’m going to switch to steel toes next time.

I love my Merrils but there is also something to be said for a good surplus pair of operations boots (in black) they don’t stick out too much and are super comfortable once broken in.

I wear Dunhams. They’re comfortable, water proof, and they wear like iron. I weigh over 300 pounds, and my Dunhams still last 4-5 years. Regular shoes don’t last me a year.

As others have mentioned, I think you need a pair of Red Wings.

I am sold on RedWing boots. I had a pair last me about 9 years and several resoles. I didn’t take the best care of them one the leather was cracking pretty bad.

I went out and bought 2 more pairs when the old ones couldn't be resoled anymore.

I have a pair of Chippewa logger boots I like. The holy grail for us in the northwest is White’s boots, but they run 400 dollars or so. However they are custom made for you.

The Red Wing Iron Ranger and its siblings, the Chippewa Service Boot, and any Wolverine 1000-mile model: all tough as nails, all nice enough leather to wear to work but tough enough for a hike or pasture, and all should be reparable and thus last a long time. All can be found under $300. I have all three and beat them up, but they just look better and better. Same should go for the Woolrich Yankee, I just haven’t had them long enough to be certain of their toughness.

I have 2 pairs of Wolverine 1000 Milers. Love them to death. I’m frequently in similar locations for work as the OP, sometimes in khakis and polo, sometimes in a suit. The 1000 Milers work in either of these as far as my fashion standards...

My dad is an Ag Extension Agent, and swears by Red Wings. They do have amazing customer service if there’s a store in your city.

Thus, a pair of Iron Rangers are my next boots.

Good options in both cases.

I’d recommend something from Thorogood’s American Heritage line. Well made American boots that are a bit more reasonably priced than Red Wings.

I have these.

As somebody mentioned below, White’s are the real deal. Danner’s are good too. Not exactly fashionable, but the Danner Corvalis is my favorite, “do anything” boot.

I’ll go off script. I’m an engineer who can get sent into dirty labs and our South Texas ranch land field sites without warning any day. I daily these with jeans. Columbia Alpine boots.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve gotten a lot of compliments and people think they are more expensive than they are. Soft and comfy from day one, but seem to hold up to basic abuse well and the soles don’t wear out too quick. They are Columbia so they won’t last forever. But they’re under $100 so you can just replace them. Despite the low price, they are indeed real leather and smell fantastic.
